Comparisons We Do!

Comparison is a death knell to mind’s harmony

Life we live is full of comparisons. We all somewhere know that, comparison is the last thing to do to get far from happiness but we (our minds) are constantly comparing : things, events, friends, places, religions, most of them everything and anything possible. As a child we are taught to compete and compare rather evaluating our own-self, we tend to compare grades, scores, discipline, play-time, habits, , time of study, etc so as a kid here from where start developing a habit where our life is part of constant comparison.

Just as an example as we move on in life, we compare place we live with the place where we come from or vice-versa, but always there is search of dream place which our mind has constructed. Same thing is with the personality of a person, we keep on thinking of him as person of our thought and his actions and behavior are under constant scrutiny of mind with drawing parallels for his reputation we have form.

So it is like we look at things in life relatively, comparing differences, instead of looking at each thing or individuals’ value on its own

I only know from my own personal experience, and I feel that there’s a cyclical nature to things, so you don’t want to start making generalizations about how good/bad things(or people) have become in comparison to ………..

Avoid over-thinking and social comparison. – Comparing yourself to someone else can be poisonous. If we’re somehow ‘better’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, it gives us an unhealthy sense of superiority. Our ego inflates. If we’re ‘worse’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, we usually discredit the hard work that we’ve done and dismiss all the progress that we’ve made. What I’ve found is that the majority of the time this type of social comparison doesn’t stem from a healthy place. If you feel called to compare yourself to something, compare yourself to an older version of yourself. It is very easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements in comparison with what we owe others.

I don’t have conclusive words for comparisons that our mind does but a good thought to think on and act upon.

  1. Comparison can indeed diminish all involved through a sheer lack of individual acknowledgement. We can cease to see others; instead, only seeing them in comparison to some cerebral bookmark placed long ago.

On a practical level, comparison is important to survival (is this event more or less dangerous than one I have previously considered?) It allows us to make fight or flight responses without undue analysis. However, when applied to people, it rarely yields a satisfactory outcome.

  2. It depends on situations, but vastly negativity around is result of it!

  3. very well written! thoughts and words blend very well! agree in the above comments too. here comes a follow!

  4. From my experience and thought I too consider that the result of comparison when someone else is superior or have better things is you then stop evaluating yourself and deviate from your own path and start focusing on the other persons (opposite one) dream and ultimately you make a stop at your thinking which is nothing but you limited yourself in developing your own thought.
But friends I just believe in one thing everything is in abundance on this earth. If someone have found something you will also find something else which is nothing but unique thing what other have found. So be pleased what you have and keep exploring. This earth is full of unique things so just keep exploring and admiring and moreover be satisfied what you have and think of doing what best you can do what you have rather then comparing it with something/someone else.
